Citrus Exports 2023 Target 1 Billion Dollars in Turkey

The yield of citrus products in the Aegean Region was estimated at 769 thousand 302 tons in the 2023/24 season, an increase of 335 thousand 186 tons compared to last season. It was 412 thousand 30 tons in 2022/23 season, 361 thousand 478 tons in 2021/22 season, 434 thousand 116 tons in 2020/21 season and 442 thousand 349 tons in 2019/20 season.

Reminding that in 2022, Turkey-wide citrus exports reached 904 million dollars, Hayrettin Uçak, Vice President of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations Coordinator and President of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, said: “In 2022, the share of citrus in our Turkey-wide fresh fruit and vegetable exports of 2 billion 953 million dollars with a decrease of 4 was 30. While Turkey exported 1 million 802 thousand tons of citrus fruits in 2020, we reached 1 million 963 thousand tons in 2021 and 1 million 940 thousand tons in 2022.”

Uçak announced that while mandarin ranked first with 463 million dollars with an increase of 2 percent in Turkey’s citrus exports in 2022, lemon exports reached 272 million dollars, orange exports amounted to 98 million dollars and grapefruit exports amounted to 69 million dollars.

“Our country ranks 8th in the world and 2nd in Europe in citrus production. In 2022, we exported 429 million dollars to Russia, 84 million dollars to Ukraine, 68 million dollars to Iraq, 46 million dollars to Poland with an increase of 33 percent, and 42 million dollars to Romania. The amount of product in citrus fruits is quite high this season compared to 2022. There is a significant yield increase. Quality expectations are above average. In the Aegean Region, we achieved a 14 percent increase in the 2022/23 season. 86 percent increase is predicted for the 2023/24 season. The 2023/24 period will be our most fertile period when we will break records in citrus. Our goal is to bring 1 billion dollars to Turkey.”

President Plane said, “There is a significant increase in oranges in the 2023 season compared to the previous year. The largest increase is largely evident in the Washington variety. In the 2023 season, there is a 13 percent increase in orange production in İzmir, 158 percent in Muğla and 528 percent in Aydın compared to the previous year. In the 2023 season, there is a 208 percent acceleration in orange production compared to the previous year.

In Satsuma mandarin, we expect a 16 percent improvement in 2023 compared to the previous year. We found a 76% increase in productivity in Aydın, 12% in Balıkesir, 4% in İzmir and 23% in Muğla. We expect an increase of 213 percent in lemon production compared to the previous year. An increase of 222 percent is expected in Muğla. In grapefruit, there will be a 10 percent increase in 2023/24 harvest.” said.

According to 2023 yield forecasts; In the Aegean Region, orange increased from 105 thousand 189 tons in 2022 to 324 thousand 663 tons in 2023, mandarin increased from 256 thousand 69 tons in 2022 to 299 thousand 260 tons in 2022, while lemons increased from 44 thousand 121 tons in 2022 to 138 in 2022. progressed to 1,326 tons, while grapefruit progressed from 6,190 tons to 6,831 tons
