New coulter unit for SULKY BUREL’s XEOS PRO combination drill

The third generation CULTIDISC 3 coulter unit is more robust and agile, with spring-loaded blades and a treatment on the steel improving workflow through heavy trash and stony soil. The unrivalled 560mm clearance between rows brings versatility, including the ability to work a variety of soil types from silt to clay, and through significant crop debris.

Wet autumns and challenging soil conditions following late harvests are no barrier to the XEOS PRO. The CULTIDISC 3 is able to drill without its press wheel even in the most extreme of conditions, allowing operators to prioritise fields for best crop establishment.

The 415mm diameter notched disc with a 4 degree angle facilitates trash removal and clean furrows, even at high speeds, giving excellent soil/seed contact in minimum tillage conditions.

Up to 100kg of individual pressure from the coulter unit provides optimum drilling quality by depth control in almost any conditions. This is an increase of 20kg on the previous CULTIDISC generation and enables fast drilling on tough crop residues in late autumn conditions, plus the option for deep drilling of beans.

Adjustments to the toolbar, including drilling depth, are made simple with a parallelogram linkage between seed drill chassis and the drilling toolbar. All the coulter units are identical and a single adjustment to the parallelogram provides equal pressure on all rows, guaranteeing a consistent seed depth for fast, even emergence, and optimal crop establishment.

Accuracy of seed placement at the bottom of the furrow is helped with a vent to release the air pressure above the coulter unit, allowing gravity descent with no rebound. Secondly, a ‘skirt’ guides the seed along the disc to the bottom of the furrow to prevent any ejection in case of contact with the rotating disc.

Flanged press wheels prevent any build-up of soil on the row, especially at high speeds. The wheels can be adjusted for optimal soil/seed contact according to the soil conditions and seed type.

The CULTIDISC 3 also benefits from minimal maintenance thanks to lubrication-free double row ball bearings and the absence of articulations in the suspension of the spring-loaded blades. An anti-wear carbide plate fitted to each seed coulter provides protection and guarantees a well-traced furrow throughout the life of the drill.
