Can-Am off-road line-up is built for Scottish Highlands

The 2019 Can-Am Outlander 6×6 450 T has been designed and developed to enable users to carry out the toughest jobs on the farm more efficiently and to handle the varying terrains out in the field with ease.

The vehicle is powered by the reliable 38 hp single-cylinder, liquid-cooled Rotax 450 engine and comes with industry-leading towing capacity (1,650 lb/750 kg), front and rear racks with cargo extenders, and LinQ accessory attachment points. Its Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is calibrated to ensure that it always delivers the optimal torque output, no matter where it is or what it is being used for.

The engine braking automatically reduces the speed of the ATV when going downhill and the extra low L-gear makes it easier for the rider to manoeuvre the ATV when pulling a trailer or when it is driving in deep mud. In addition, the Visco-Lok system front differential system requires no buttons to push or levers to be held in order to engage it and once the 6×6 option is selected, the system intelligently transfers power from the slipping front wheel to the opposing wheel with traction.

The Can-Am Outlander 6×6 450 T was joined by Can-Am’s other workhorse agricultural all terrain (ATV) and side by side vehicles (SSV). These models included the Can-Am Outlander 450 Standard, the Can-Am Outlander 570 PRO, and the tough, capable and clever Can-Am Traxter HD8.

The Outlander 450 Standard is an accessible, very competitively-priced ATV with selectable 2WD/4WD, featuring the rider-friendly Visco-Lok Auto Locking Front Differential.

The vehicle is powered by a 38-hp single-cylinder, liquid-cooled Rotax 450 four-stroke engine, which has strong power and performance, while remaining reliable and efficient.  Its Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) provides an energetic ride, even in harsh conditions. It also offers the industry’s only independent rear suspension where the rear wheels pivot up and down in a vertical line rather than a more cumbersome butterfly motion, providing more efficiency and reliability.

The ATV is designed to offer point-and-shoot handling, optimal traction and efficient transferring of power to the ground.  It has five pre-load settings on the shocks and 22cm of suspension travel, enabling it to soak up rough terrain to keep the rider comfortable and planted on the trail. Its steering includes dive-control geometry for better cornering and vehicle-braking dynamics.  The Outlander 450 also has a standard rear hitch plate and 590kg towing capacity.

The Outlander 570 PRO over-delivers on performance, enabling riders to pull and tow more easily.  Its 48-hp, eight-valve, liquid-cooled SOHC Rotax 570 V-Twin engine offers category-leading power and performance while remaining reliable and efficient.

The Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) offers three levels to align with a rider’s preference, offering easy steering assistance to the driver and adapting the level to the vehicle’s speed.  At lower speeds, assistance is increased to reduce steering effort, while at higher speeds it is reduced to maximise steering control for the rider.

Can-Am’s Traxter HD8 with Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) is equipped with a workhorse Rotax HD8 V-Twin engine.  It delivers 50-hp and 50lb-ft torque to conquer tough tasks, and its automotive-style technology and manufacturing tolerances align with modern pick-up trucks. The SSV’s high-strength, low alloy (HSLA) grade steel delivers a more rigid design constructed to handle the strain of heavy-duty jobs, tested under the Can-Am engineers’ rigorous winter/summer Utility Test Cycle.

The Traxter’s Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) is tuned for utility driving while enjoying the responsiveness required for recreational riding.  The DPS improves the steering experience in slow-speed work situations and on more technical terrain.  It is designed to offer less assistance at high speeds and more assistance at low speeds.

James Dalke, BRP district commercial manager UK, said, “The Can-Am utility range is more than capable of performing reliably at a high level on the tough terrains and heavy-duty conditions presented by the Scottish Highlands. Offering one of the widest ranges of ATV and SSV in the industry, we’re confident users will be able to find the vehicles they require to take on the toughest jobs quickly, easily, efficiently and safely.”
