Royal Highland Show debut for new JCB telescopic handler

It will be a first-time outing for the JCB TM420, the new highest capacity machine in JCB’s telescopic wheeled loader range, and the first opportunity for many farmers and contractors in Scotland to take a close look at the third-generation Loadall telescopic handlers with their all-new Command Plus cab.

The machines will be exhibited by leading JCB dealers Scot JCB (Stand R257), AM Phillip Agritech (H162) and Kelso & Lothian Harvesters (R235), which between them have branches supplying new JCB machines throughout Scotland and northern England.

The new JCB TM420 is a bigger capacity telescopic wheeled loader that delivers a big increase in productivity for larger farms and contractors from having 32% greater lift capacity at 4.1 tonnes, greater lift height at 5.4m, and faster boom operation thanks to JCB’s regenerative hydraulics system, which results in faster loading cycles.

Heavier-duty JCB full-time four-wheel drive axles handle the increased payload, while the 26in wheels and larger tyres optimise both traction and flotation in challenging work situations.

Yet the TM420 remains a compact and highly manoeuvrable machine that exploits the performance and durability of a wheeled loader and the versatility of a telescopic boom.

A larger hydraulic boom cylinder provides the 4.1 tonnes lift capacity from ground level to full height – a third more than from the high-output TM320S – with rapid oil flow and gravity bringing the boom down a faster but under complete control ready for the bucket to take another scoop of grain or the fork and grab to take another big bite of manure or silage.

Power is provided by a 145hp JCB EcoMAX diesel engine driving through a proven six-speed JCB powershift transmission, with Torque Lock direct drive from second gear for positive fuel-efficient power delivery in the yard, out in the field or when travelling on the road.

Increased lift performance, improved safety and greater driver comfort are just some of the features of JCB’s third-generation Loadall telescopic handlers, with a focus on the agricultural operator being at the heart of the new design Command Plus cab.

From the air suspension driver’s seat, the multi-radius shape of the deep windscreen provides an unmatched forwards view; look up, and there is a 14% improvement in visibility to the raised boom thanks to the glass curving uninterrupted over the operator’s head and the specially designed FOPS safety grille.

Multiple wipers keep 92% of the cab’s glass area washed clean of dust and dirt, and the new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system has 10% more airflow, which together with strategically positioned air outlets, results in 66% faster demisting and defrosting.

The Command Plus cab is also 50% quieter, 12% larger inside and provides 60% more dedicated storage space – including a unique lift-out bin behind the seat – with new controls that operators of JCB wheeled loaders, Fastrac tractors and other JCB machines will find familiar.

On top of all that, there are 100kg to 200kg increases in lift capacities to underscore the highly productive performance of the new 6m lift 538-60, 7m 532-70 and 542-70, and 9.5m 536-95.
